In 1994, volunteers with Volunteer Christian Builders, built the first building at Valley View Baptist Church, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas and returned in 2001 to build the sanctuary.
Recently when going through pictures and items donated by Doris Ward, a long-time volunteer with VCB, we came across the poem below which was in the Volunteer Christian Builders Memory Book dated 1979-1999. This book was put together by George and Bobbie Kidwell to celebrate VCB's 20th Anniversary.
The poem was written by Jean Hope Shirk who was a member of Valley View Baptist Church at the time. She wrote in the poem, "Carpenters came from near and far with hammers and nails in hand. They were Christian volunteers from all across the land!" You can enjoy reading the full poem below.
